MEZZO-SOPRANO


Julie BoulianneCanadian mezzo-soprano Julie Boulianne is a student at the Juilliard Opera Center and a graduate of McGill University Faculty of Music. Her musical intelligence and sensitivity have earned her a number of honors including a First Prize at the Canadian Music Competition, the Prix lyrique français and the Prix de la chambre des directeurs, both offered by the Canadian Lyrical Ambassadors organization and, more recently, the Professional Chamber of Opera Managers Award for the most promising career at the Montreal International Music Competition. A winner of the CBC/Radio-Canada's Debut Series and of the Joy in Singing Competition in New York City, she also participated in the finals of Concours Voix nouvelles and Concours Nadia et Lili Boulanger in Paris.

Her particular affinity for art song and lieder has led her to record numerous concerts for the Chaîne culturelle de Radio-Canada, Radio-France and New York’s WQXR Radio, and she recently performed for the André-Turp Musical Society and at the New York Festival of Song. She has also appeared in concert with various Canadian orchestras, including the Orchestre Métropolotain du Grand Montréal, the Orchestre symphonique de Québec and Les violons du Roy, and has recorded Ravel’s Schéhérazade with the Nashville Symphony Orchestra for the Naxos label.

Ms. Boulianne’s opera performances include Nicklausse (Les Contes d'Hoffmann), Stefano (Roméo et Juliette) and Mercedes (Carmen) at the Opéra de Québec, Annio (La clemenza di Tito) at the Opéra de Montréal, Zerlina (Don Giovanni) at the Opéra d’Avignon and Zweite Dame (Die Zauberflöte) at the Théâtre de Reims, L’Enfant (L’enfant et les sortilèges) with the Nashville Symphony Orchestra, Hänsel (Hänsel und Gretel) and Dido (Dido and Aeneas) at the Atelier lyrique de l’Opéra de Montréal, and Zerlina (Don Giovanni), Cherubino (Le nozze di Figaro) and Zima (Les Indes galantes) at McGill Opera.
