The New York Baroque Dance CompanyThe New York Baroque Dance Company (NYBDC) was founded in 1976 by Artistic Director Catherine Turocy and Ann Jacoby. Since that time it has established itself as the leading company in historical dance today by challenging views of the eighteenth century aesthetic and breaking new ground on the interpretive aspect of theatrical dance from this period. The company has appeared throughout the United States at major festivals and theaters including the Mostly Mozart Festival at the Lincoln Center, and the Boston Early Music Festival, Spoleto Festival USA, the Mozart Festival at the Kennedy Center, and in major cities in Canada, England, France, Germany, Japan, and Mexico. NYBDC collaborates each season with Concert Royal, James Richman conductor, in producing opera-ballets including Handel's Terpsicore and Ariodante, Rameau's Pygmalion, Les Fetes d'Hebe, Le Temple de la Gloire, and Rousseau's Le Devin du Village.

In addition, the company has made guest appearances with orchestras nationally and internationally conducted by Christopher Hogwood, John Eliot Gardiner, Nicholas McGegan and Ryan Brown, the Dallas Bach Society, the Handel & Haydn Society, the National Symphony Orchestra, the Violins of Lafayett, the Academy of Ancient Music, the Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra, the New World Symphony and the Monteverdi Orchestra. In France, at the Opera de Lyon in collaborative productions with the Opera de Paris. These have included Rameau's Hippolyte et Aricie with Stage Director Pier Luigi Pizza and Music Director John Eliot Gardiner, and Rameau's Les Boreades and Leclair's Scylla et Glaucus. In 1999 the troupe was invited to perform at the Handel Festival in Goettingen, Germany where the premiered a new production of Handel's Arianna, staged and choreographed by Ms. Turocy. This spring they are invited again to stage and perform Handel's Alcina.
